Endocrinology

A children's endocrinologist is a subspecialist who deals with diagnosing and treating a number of health problems in children: growth and development problems, thyroid gland diseases, problems with low sugar levels in terms of hypoglycaemia and diabetes, problems with the pituitary or adrenal gland, disorders in functioning of reproductive glands (ovaries and testicles), early or late puberty.

What do we provide?

Our endocrinologist will carry out an examination of your child that includes: observation (looking for changes on the skin that may be a symptom of a disease), palpation (checking whether thyroid gland is enlarged) and listening through a stethoscope (heart, lung, intestine, etc.). The endocrinologist will then suggest further diagnosis (ultrasound, laboratory tests and the like), establish a diagnosis and if necessary, treatment.

In our clinic you can receive regular examinations of children who have diabetes or specific nutrition needs, get recommendations and advice for their diet. If you have a suspicion of child's growth disorder, you can get guidance for monitoring progress, diagnosis, and treatment.

When to see an endocrinologist?

The number of overweight or obese children, especially at school age, is on the rise. In older children and adolescents, symptoms of endocrine disorders may include slow growth or puberty delay. If your child has any of the symptoms of diabetes (increased thirst and urination, weight loss, irritability and anxiety, yeast infections, exhaustion, blurred vision) do not delay a visit to the endocrinologist.
